Damon Clear Braces

Why settler for the limitation of traditional clear braces or invisible aligners like Invisilign when there's Damon Clear? With Damon Clear, people may not even realize you're wearing braces. Other clear or so-called invisible braces have visible metal parts or elastic ties that can yellow during treatment. But tieless Damon Clear braces are more discrete and resistant to staining and discoloration all throughout treatment.

Bite correction without Headgear!

Commonly, Dr Thomas & Powaybraces are asked to correct Protruding upper front teeth. There are many causes of this particular condition; most commonly are small lower jaws, excessive thumb habits, or a variety of other issues affecting the front to back growth of the jaws.

When patients have these situations, various treatment options have been used to correct this type of bite: Headgear, Herbst appliances, Extractions, Pendulum, Wilson, Bionator, Activator, and many more. The last two years, I've been using an appliance called a Carriere Distalizer – and its proven to be clinically absolutely amazing and efficient at correcting bite problems where the upper front teeth stick out in front of the lower.

My patients have experienced this effect and correction every single time its been used & I'm now using it much more often because of how comfortable it is for my patients.

Another great benefit is that its able to reduce the total amount of time our patients actually have to have braces on their teeth! A typical orthodontic patient requires 18-24 months of braces. With this approach, the first 6-8 months deal with bite correction WITHOUT any braces on the teeth at all!! This means the actual amount of time in braces for this type of bite is reduced to 12-18 rather than much longer. Occasionally, Dr Thomas is able to correct a patients bite entirely using this appliance, avoiding the use of braces altogether. Another option is to use this appliance followed by the use of Clear aligners - again avoiding the use of braces for some of our patients.

Fantastic Poway Braces Finishes

These are the beginning photos for a young lady who recently had her braces finished by Dr Thomas & we’re so proud of her (above blog shows how she finished)! She came to us after having had a few years of braces elsewhere and was unsure as to what to expect with a new office.

After our exam, and detailed conversations, Poway braces / Dr Thomas arrived at a non surgery and non extraction treatment plan that included more recent advanced technology. When we do your braces, its not only just to have straight teeth, but also to enhance your smile to the fullest extent possible. This patient's final result would typically require jaw surgery to both widen her arches and to correct and close her open bite (front teeth separated)

What this means in everyday terms is that your teeth must match the outline of your lips, showing just enough gums, but not too much, make sure your smile is broad and wide so you do not have dark area's on the sides when you smile, and that your teeth are NOT brought back too far in your face. We not only care about what you look like today, but also when your 40, 50, and 60! If your teeth are brought back too far, either with headgear or extensive extractions of teeth, its possible your face can prematurely age. Dr Thomas carefully evaluates your smile, profile, position of your teeth in your face, to make sure they are in the best position possible for your face over the lifetime of your smile.

Our Poway and EastLake Orthodontic offices use approaches that minimize moving your teeth back, unless you cannot close your lips easily. One of the main reason's Dr Thomas chooses to have permanent teeth removed is to enable his patients to comfortably close their lips together without having to strain to close their mouth and lips. If your teeth are so far forward that you cannot close your lips comfortably, then it makes sense to bring the front teeth back, often requiring extractions of permanent teeth in these specific situations.
